My name is Margaret or Maggie to my friends. I am a 50 something wife and mother of 3 adult sons. I have a Batchelor of Economics and Commerce from Melbourne University.
I met and married my husband David in 1976. In the same year I had a nasty fall on stairs, which resulted in the fracture of my coccyx. I was in a lot of pain for more than the 6 weeks that it takes for a bone to heal. I could not lie down, sit down or stand up, and walking was also painful. I suspect that the time that I took to heal was due in part because I had an unrecognized low grade inflammatory arthritis, known as Spondyloarthropathy. It took until February 2006 to get a proper diagnosis. Then at the end of the year I fractured my coccyx again.
I am no longer in the workforce by choice. Since I cannot sit for long periods at a time, and I cannot stand for long periods at a time, my work opportunities are limited. Having AS means that I have to be careful about my work choices because lifting items that are too heavy causes me to go into spasms of pain.
I have a number of hobbies: knitting, crochet, counted x-stitch, embroidery, tatting, bobbin lacemaking but please note I am not into art.
