Welcome to the NHS style of care

This story is horrifying because it involves a 6 day old baby. The story revolves around staff at the Stafforshire hospital in the UK, which has been under fire because of the neglect of elderly patients.

In this particular case, the mother had given birth to a very healthy daughter, and had gone home. There were some tests to be conducted, and midwives had come to the home to carry out those blood tests. They did not tell the mother that they had to conduct a blood test on her infant. They asked for a warm bowl of water, but the mother took the water out of the tap and it was scalding hot. One of the midwives was a student.

Red raw: Baby Katie's foot was left with 'skin hanging off' after the blunder by Stafford Hospital midwives

You can see from the photograph the extent of the burn injury on the poor little baby. It is not clear whether the baby will need an skin grafts. It is also not clear whether this will affect her walking ability.

The problem with this particular hospital goes back to the Browne/Blair years. It seems that the management of theĀ  trust was caught up in efficiency gains. The stories coming out about this hospital are absolutely horrific.

If you want government medicine this is what you get in the long-term… staff that are totally lacking in compassion, common sense, and competence.
